The divine "Mr Potato Head"?

I often wonder whether people are really interested in the truth about God. It seems we would rather create our own God with a form and nature that WE find suitable.

It makes me think about Mr Potato Head, a plastic toy with interchangeable parts that can be used to create a “person” with facial characteristics of our own choosing.

Instead of selecting from a choice of different facial features, we can choose from a selection of scripture verses to build our own preferred image of God. But just like the toys, we don’t need to stick with the basic package of original parts. We are also offered supplementary features through countless extra-biblical texts and teachings. There are accessories we can add to “improve” our chosen Divine image – until all authenticity has been either replaced or obscured.

Maybe we would benefit significantly from time spent reassessing our motives and desires. Do we genuinely want GOD’s Truth; do we want GOD as HE really is? – Or do we want to follow a "plastic" God we have created for ourselves?

And to what extent are you creating your own Mr Potato head? Even a quick perusal through the articles posted here displays a tendency for an easy departure from the word of God.Take this one for example.

Quote
I tend to think that Satan’s attempt to destroy Jesus was to prevent the establishment of the Kingdom of Israel under the rule of the Messiah. By killing the Messiah, Satan thought he could stop the kingdom. But God’s plan involved an unexpected twist. The Messiah would come twice, first as a sacrifice then secondly as King to rule over the nations from His throne in Zion.
End quote

Firstly , i must say that from that article it appears that you are more in tune with Satan and his plans than what you are with God and His plans.
So Jesus comes first as a sacrifice , and then secondly as a King ?? . Are you sure?

I think the potato head god you envisage is somewhat divergent from what the bible teaches.Sadly , you seem to believe that Gods plans were sabotaged by the inept behaviour of man. Fortunately , we do have Gods word to guide us, and a sovereign God he is .

Rev 1:5
And from Christ Jesus, the faithful witness , the first born of the dead , and the ruler of kings on earth.

Zec 9:9
Rejoice greatly O daughter of Zion , Shout aloud , O daughter of Jerusalem!
behold your KING is coming to you ; righteous and having salvation is he , humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt , the foal of a donkey

Matthew 21:1-5
Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethpage, to the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples , saying to them , Go into the village in front of you , and immediately you will find a donkey tied , and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, you shall say , " The Lord needs them" and he will send them at once . This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet , saying
Say to the daughter of Zion,
Behold your king is coming to you ,
humble , and mounted on a donkey ,
and on a colt , the foal of a beast of burden.

Wow , a humble king that rides on a donkey, and bringing salvation .
Sorry , but you are deceiving yourself and others , Christ will not return as king , He is already King , and he reigns now, perhaps it is your " mr potato head " kingdom that needs a makeover.

Phillipians 2:8
And being found in human form , he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death , even death on a cross . THEREFORE , God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth , and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord , to the Glory of the Father.

Anonymous (who isn't willing to separate himself from the countless others who go by the name of "anonymous", I 'll let your ignorance speak for itself.

Even the quotes you give from my earlier articles show that your accusations against my beliefs are false.

So sad that your ignorance robs you of understanding of the immense glory of God and His eternal purposes.

Well, as long as you have the anonymous facility linked to comments , I'll use it!

Perhaps you could just answer a simple question , Is Jesus the king now.?

Well if you don't have the strength of conviction to take some form of public accountability for your comments that's your choice. But I'm more likely to delete anonymous comments rather than post them.

And I'm sure others are more likely to take comments seriously if a person is willing to give some kind of identification.

Others who have used the anonymous option have at least had the courtesy of giving a name within their comment.

When there are multiple "anonymous" contributors it is easy to get them all confused as the same person - just think of some of the "wonderful" doctrines that you could seem to be supporting without knowing it. At least, if I were you, I'd be keen to distance myself from every other crackpot comment contributed by anonymous.

Of course Jesus is King now, but in the future He will reign as King from Jerusalem. He will reign for 1000 years as David's heir over an Israel that has recognised Him as their Messiah.

He will be the conquering King that Israel were expecting during His first coming.
